Install OS onto an external Disk ( USB Flash or spare external )

Boot from it, run updates and install diskwarrior. Then start fixing your iMac hopefully.

Does anyone know how to create a Bootable External firewire drive from the DiskWarrior application file.

At great risk of oversimplification, use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your original, bootable DW DVD to your external Firewire Drive (repartition it for Apple GUID first) and you are good to go.

Worked for me after chatting with the very attentive DW support chappie. No original DVD and you are buggered. ;-)

Yes - that is the way to go.
In other words, you want to create a 2nd disk with OS X and boot from that and then your internal disk (which you want to fix) is not busy.
