DP, thanks.. I know what a fortnight means.. I've just not heard/read it in ages!

darkpaw 06-12-2003 04:38 PM

Hehehe, we use it all the time here in good ol' Blighty.

darkpaw 06-13-2003 01:12 PM

In fact, I think I used it about a fortnight ago...

tlarkin 06-13-2003 01:40 PM

yeah and you guys call elevators lifts and apartments flats...and you guys spell color - colour. The english language is whacky.

darkpaw 06-13-2003 08:44 PM

No, the American-English version is wacky... You sailed from Plymouth with a copy of the English dictionary, and somewhere along the way - maybe some water splashes, I dunno - the 'u's were lost!!! ;)

"Lifts" and "flats" are quicker to say and type ;)

Anyways, back to the subject. I can recommend http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk for blank DVD-Rs. 4x ICE Branded certified for use with the Pioneer A05/105 drive... and they do work!

yellow 06-13-2003 08:57 PM

Don't you know, in Puritan society the u is the symbol of the devil? Well, except in Puritan. :)

ok ok so putting a drive it lost its alure, but a whole page of drift...

darkpaw 06-15-2003 07:55 AM

I tried valiantly to get it back on topic with my link for blank DVD-Rs... ;)

tlarkin 06-16-2003 11:10 AM

I'm not sure if this is the cheapest drive you can buy, but I found a cendyne DVD-R drive, for only 179.99. After installing it in a G4, apple system profilers says its a pioneer a05 drive.

PS just kidding about the english jokes :)

darkpaw 06-16-2003 04:28 PM

Yeah, that's 179.99 USD yeah? Bit difficult to get a drive over to the UK, especially with shipping and import taxes. £139.99 with £3.99 P&P is a real bargain... (Check my earlier post.)

yellow 06-16-2003 04:29 PM

Yeah, VAT is a killer on stuff like that.

tlarkin 06-16-2003 05:19 PM

I thought the original poster was from the US???

Yeah that was $USD

iDVD

The big question is......Will any aftermarket DVD burner like the A05 or the 105 or the 106 work with apples software. I bought a lacie that works with studio pro, but I like the ease of iDVD because of the iLife suite that it works with. Any help on this would be great. Thanks in advance

Most DVD Burners Particualry Pionner and Sony

Most DVD Burners Particualry Pionner and Sony work inside but not outside.

Apple does not sell Externals and does not want its Mostly Free Software to be used by people that did pay for an Apple Drive.

Course with IDVD being a For Pay product now and part of the ILife suite it seems if Apple wants you to pay twice (once for the Software and once for the Hardware).

*** And yet this is a legacy of the previously free status of All the Apps. And that you can upgrade IDVD2 to 3 for Free.

astrobhoy 08-06-2003 11:00 AM

So in a nutshell does it work? I'm thinking of getting the 106 (seen it for £128 on blankdiscshop.co.uk) and installing into my Mac Quicksilver. Will it work with

iMovie 2 or 3
iDVD3 2 or 3
Will it record + and – format on the Mac

Adios

Yes the pioneer drives will work fine. Apple just recently switched over to a sony that does + and -. Apple uses the pioneer, the sony's, and hitatchi combo and dvdrw drives in their laptops and desktops. So there is support written in the OS for them.

I don't see why the 106 (A06) won't work.

GeoffreyKOBrien 08-06-2003 11:30 AM

do you know what sony drive they are using for the + and -, that would be a lot better bet over the A05/6!! But I think im going to get a 105 I saw them for 153 online today off of pricewatch, anyone else seen them lower?

tlarkin 08-06-2003 12:07 PM

I forget which model it is but its sony's newest + - drive.

GeoffreyKOBrien 08-06-2003 12:09 PM

so that should work inside huh, I may have to go get one to check it out, and if it doesn't work bring it back. That's going to be my thing for this weekend, find one that works!!!
