I have Grey Leopard DVD Which MAC do they work on pls
Good Evening
I have Grey Leopard DVD Labelled "FOR MAC COMPUTERS" MAC OS VERSION 10.5.4 AHT VERSION 3A152 DISC VERSION 1.0 2Z691-6248-A Please can some guru out there send me some links of an Application which will tell me which MAC this leopard DVD will run on or the model details thanks:) |
Looks like you got a set of OEM disks (or only disk 1 of 2? --- and from where?).
Anyway, you can google on '2Z691-6248-A' for yourself. [i doubt anyone actually walks around with that sort of information in their head.] |

Can you tell us for sure it contains no info about itself? |
Thanks Hal
Instructions on how to install, Welcome to leopard, optional extra install and install bundled software install reading through all the instructions its just generic to all mac which meet the minimum requirements. goes to preparing installation then Mac os cannot be installed on this computer and this computer is a MAC Mini weird ? |
The grey sets come in the box with new Macs, and will only install on the same model that it shipped with. Looks like your second set might be for a Mac Pro 2008, or even a MacBook Air 2008. That's just a guess. The installer should be looking for a specific hardware machine ID - such as Macmini3,1 - but you'd have to dig into the files on the disk to discover that info.
I've not ever seen a list matching the disk versions to the Macs that they install on. Googling doesn't seem to give a reliable match-up, and looks to be a guess when you see the numbers on a sales site. That's why the grey restore sets usually are a bad purchase. |
Hi Delta Mac im still in despiration trying to find the models these discs work with I will keep my fingers crossed hopign someone knows 100% which they will work with or can tell me step by step how to find this info on the discs
Disc 1 Mac OS version 10.5.4 AHT Version: 3A152 Disc Version 1.0 2Z691-6248-A Disc 2 2Z691-6249-A Disc Version 1.0 |
Those 2 disks are (probably) the same set, disc 1 and 2, both coming in the box with a Mac.
You said that you were given two sets? What is the other set, or is the other set of discs the same as these 2? |

Post #7 tells you the model it came with.

Which Core2Duo iMac would that be? There's only 5 different possible core2duo iMacs that might work with, and will only work with _one_ of those.... A little other checking with MacTracker, leaves the early 2008 iMac as the most likely, AFAIK. maybe... |
Why is it so important that you get a completely EXACT answer?
You're lucky enough someone gave you an OEM disk set (which may even be illegal, unless Apple authorizes you as an OEM distributor? idunno). They will probably work with most Macs that can handle 10.5.4 -- so just try them on whatever Mac(s) you own, and then give *us* the answer. Thanks. |

That's why so many of these threads end up with the same instructions - 'Get the commercial (black) installer' The MacBook alone has at least 6, and maybe as many as 10 different restore sets, as each different machine ID would have a separate installer set. There may be operating system changes on some, again with different sets if they were sold with that version. Unless you _know_ that a set came with a specific model, it's mostly luck to find one that works. The quickest way to see that - is to try to boot to the Apple Hardware test on that restore set. If the hardware test runs, then you have the right set for restore. |

I contacted apple and they told me I need this model disk for a macbook 4,2.
Hope this helps and is not too old. So call Apple if you really need to know which restore discs work for your machine, give them your serial#, and they will tell you what you need. And it is fine to sell the grey OEM discs, it is the white ones apple specifically lists "not for resale." |
