ctrl + scroll will zoom in with any mouse. I am using a MS mouse because I like the feel of it better.
In my humble opinion, Apple has always made terrible mice. I couldn't stand using the old hockey puck mice! |
I've now got my Magic Mouse up and running, and I do like it better than my USB Super Mouse. Only took a few minutes to get used to. You do have to download the new Mouse Preference Pane if your keyboard and mouse appear in the same pane (as they will if you'd been running USB keyboard and mouse). Now I can use the Super Mouse (which I liked well enough) on my MBP instead of the Logitech (I don't much like the trackpad).
The downside: if you use the USB Overdrive Preference Pane (which I did) you'll have to uninstall it to run your Magic Mouse. Otherwise, the scroll won't work. According to Montalcini's web site he just got his and will have a fix soon. |
Just got my new iMac and Magic Mouse. I can scroll up and down by swiping my finger; but I cannot scroll right to left by swiping. Please help. Since I am used to a track pad, I find it horrible to have to move the mouse itself.
Also, while the keyboard batteries remain at 100%, after 2 days the Magic Mouse batteries are down to 87%. |
The Magic Mouse must might be faulty if it's acting like that. A couple of thoughts come to mind.
First off, make sure that you have the mouse set up properly in settings, inside of system preferences. Secondly, if the batteries really are draining that quickly, call Apple Care, that's not quite normal. |
After reading the reviews of the Bamboo Touch Pad, I am not inclined to buy. It's about $55 at Amazon, and people compare it unfavorably to the MacBook's Touch Pad which I love and want to emulate for my iMac. I think I'll get a trackball. I really don't like using a mouse including the bluetooth Magic Mouse which came with my brand new iMac. Wish there had been a trackball option!

Perhaps apple should just create a desktop touch pad and be done with it. Perhaps both stand alone and integrated with a keyboard. I used to love optical trackballs with desktops. I'm good with optical mice.
*** Yet I have noticed that those rare times I sit with my macbook at a desk and try using anything but the trackpad below the keyboard I can not be bothered to make the extra hand travel. Sure if I was doing something specialized a drawing tablet or precise optical mouse might have an advantage, but I find the trackpad to be my preferred input method. I am one Gen back on my 2.2 Macbook, so I have not yet used for extended periods of time the new glass all trackpad click version, but I am sure I would feel the same. |
