Macbook won't wake up after sleeping???
Well, as the title states my Macbook (santa rosa edition) is having problems waking after I close the lid and put it to sleep mode. Twice in the last 2 days when I open it up after sleep mode the screen just stays black and I have no control over it. I noticed that the light that usually is flashing (while sleeping) is just a solid light. What's up? Is this a hard drive issue? I was thinking of upgrading my hard drive to a larger capacity, maybe it's time. Any help is appreciated... thanks.
***Also, what's the best way to get my hard drive transfered to a new hard drive? I would like to transfer everything to the new drive before I install it. I have an enclosure box for setting up the new drive. |

What devices have you installed drivers not included with OS X onto this computer for, whether or not they are currently plugged into it? Things like USB network devices, for example, or external sound cards, or any device driver that you installed since getting this computer might be important. Can you show us your logs? You can easily view them yourself using the Console app, found in /Applications/Utilities. The system.log would be a good place to start, so please attach it to this thread as a .txt text file. The only thing that is plugged in virtually all the time (when I'm at home) is a Gigaware 4 port usb 2.0 high speed hub. The hub is plugged into my computer via usb, that has a blue tooth (plugs into the hub) that runs my wireless logitech mouse. There is also a usb gigaware audio plug that is plugged into the hub and I have my speakers plugged into. That's it...

So, if I do replace my current HD can I go with a 7200rpm model?

Doesn't your Logitech mouse work with the built-in Bluetooth?

For reference, the rest of what I was asking for is below: What devices have you installed drivers not included with OS X onto this computer for, whether or not they are currently plugged into it? Well, I found my system log, the file exceeds the max 100kb for the forum. I made a copy of the .txt file put in on my desktop but it has 420kb. How do I break it down into smaller sections. I apologize for my incompetence with all this. :(
|
That's somewhat unusual for a system.log to be 420KB, as it is usually archived before it reaches that size. But in answer to your question, open it up in TextEdit or another text editor of your choice, and delete all but the most recent one quarter of it, then save it on your Desktop as system.log.txt. Make sure not to save as .rtf (which TextEdit usually saves by default), as that will make it much larger. You want it in .txt format.
Trevor |
Sorry but I cannot edit this info down there's just too much in the file to edit to the post. The .txt file is just too big... should I try a SMC reset? I don't want to start randomly doing things unless it's related to my problem...

I just can't figure out how to extract 25% from the file, I've tried and can't seem to load it to a .txt file. I'm not very savy when it comes to this stuff so anything more specific as to how I can achieve this would be great. I tried script editor but I keep getting a script syntax error. You guys must hate this, when you get someone like me that your trying to help... By the way I haven't had the wake issue yesterday or today yet. Sure hope it's not my logic board starting to go bad. I found this in my searching, exactly what is happening to mine>http://noiseboyscyberhome.blogspot.c...rom-sleep.html

I'm assuming you are using Console.app to look at the log.
If so, then go to the "File" menu and choose "Save Copy As..." and supply a filename and specify the folder where it is to be saved - e.g. tell it to save a copy on the Desktop and name it "crashlog.txt" (or whatever you want). Then, in Finder, go to where you saved it, and double-click on its icon. If you named it with a ".txt" suffix, this should open the saved copy in "Text Edit". In Text Edit, scroll to the bottom of the file so you can get an idea of how many lines are in the file, then highlight (using the mouse) the first line in the file (in Text Edit) and then drag downwards until it seems that you have highlighted around 75% of the file. Then press the "Delete" key and whatever you highlighted will disappear. You will be left with the last 25% of the file. Do "File" / "Save" and then attach that file. |
Thanks, I did try exactly your describing and when I hit delete (for the highlighted section) the whole file was deleted. Anyway, I will try to get this .txt file figured out, appreciate the help, and patience haha.

1) only part (the first 75%) of the file was highlighted? 2) that when you pressed delete, Text Edit was the frontmost application? |

Here we go...maybe?

I see references in that log file to "Kodak EasyShare Wireless Listener".
This sounds like something related to an electronic picture frame. Do you have one of these? The "Kodak EasyShare Wireless Listener" software might be what is causing the trouble. I also see references to "AZTheatre" which Google seems to show is related to your LogicTech mouse. I'd try disconnecting all peripherals (USB) and mice and then restart your Mac and see if the problem goes away. |
Thanks, for looking and checking that file out...
|
kennym01, thank you for posting your logs. As hayne mentions, the most likely candidate that we can see in there that could be causing your sleep problem is the Kodak EasyShare Wireless Listener. You should definitely uninstall that and see if the problem goes away.
The second most likely candidate to cause the problem with sleep is LCCDaemon. This is part of the driver that is installed for your Logitech mouse. If removing the Kodak EasyShare Wireless Listener doesn't fix your problem, the next step is to uninstall all of your LCC (which stands for Logitech Control Center) software. Your mouse will continue to work, although only the primary two buttons and the scroll wheel will continue to do what you want. Other buttons will temporarily not work after you uninstall LCC. If that does indeed turn out to be the cause of your sleep issue, then you can install a third party driver, such as SteerMouse or USB Overdrive, to control your extra mouse buttons without the problems associated with LCC. Also trouble with wake up after sleep
Recently I also faced the problem that almost all the time MacBookPro doesn't wake up after sleep. I cannot remember if it started after upgrading to Snow Leopard or after installing new harddisk which happened almost simultaneously. System bought in June so harddisk should not have failed...
Anyway, setting hibernate mode to 0 solved the problem. See http://www.macworld.com/article/5347...sleepmode.html It appears that something goes wrong writing info to the hard disk before really falling in sleep. I have no clue how to solve that. Hans |
Thanks, you guys are always very helpful. I will take your advice and keep an eye on things. I appreciate the input... ;)
|
Oh oh, it is better but sometimes it still doesn't wake up. Wish Apple solved the problem because this is really annoying! :(
|
Apple can't fix your problem if you don't bring it to their attention. You may have a sleep sensor problem. Take your laptop to an Apple service shop for some testing, or call AppleCare support.

MacBook won't wake up after sleeping???
To all those having trouble waking MacBook up. I was you until yesterday. Finally found the answer, & mine works perfectly again. Hope this will help you:
Pull up Finder: -Devices/Mac HD/Library/Preferences/System Config Do you have a file called comapple.AutoWake.plist? -If you do, this isn't your problem. -If you don't: -Pull up System Preferences/Energy Saver -Make sure you are on Sleep tab, not Options -Click on Schedule (bottom right corner) -Check box for "Start up or wake" -Click OK -Now click on Schedule again, & uncheck "Start up or wake" box -Again, go back to the Finder path, & see if the comapple.AutoWake.plist is shown. If this was your problem, it should fix it; at least it certainly did mine. Don't ask me what happened to the original plist, can't tell you. If it doesn't fix it, sorry...! |
This made it better for me for a while but the problem returned!!
|
hansfeil, could we see your system.log from when this happens? The powermanagement log you attached is difficult to parse, and I am having trouble getting anything useful from it.
Also, as mentioned in my previous post to this thread, you need to tell us about what you have connected to the computer. Trevor |

Trevor, here is my system log. A bit delayed but I don't get emails when a new post appears in this forum. Don't know why.
I hope this helps. System had several wake up problems on Oct.8 Regards, Hans |

Dear Trevor,
Closed the lid of the computer at 00:44 and opened it at 08:10. Screen remains dark, "sleep light" went off and for the rest nothing except that I hear the HD. Pushed the power switch for a few seconds, computer went OFF and pushed again to switch the computer ON. I have attached the small log file. Do you find a clue? Best regards, Hans |
hansfeil, I've asked twice for information about the peripherals attached to your computer. Will you please answer that question?
I note in the log from post #29, you have the following: Code:
Oct 8 09:51:07 Macintosh com.apple.SystemStarter[22]: Starting HP IO MonitorTrevor |

Ok, I have uninstalled VMWare Fusion and restarted the computer, just in case. Let's see if it is getting better. One wake-up-from-sleep is not enough because sometimes it goes well for say half a day.
Hans |
Occasionally I have connected an USB harddrive for Timemachine. But the problem doesn't seem to be correlated to the HD. The HP printer is a wireless printer connected via airport. HP software sucks anyway but I need a driver to print. Not?
|
I suggest, like trevor advised, that you remove the HP supplied drivers. Then, run the Install Additional Software installer from your OS X install DVD to install the HP drivers supplied by Apple. These drivers should work just as good, but avoid the additional background garage that HP tends to install. Afterward, be sure to remove your HP printer from the Printer/Fax preferences and add it again.

On 9/26, I sent a msg to check the AutoWake.plist in SysConfig. I'm sorry to say, that fix only kept my MacBook Pro going for a couple of days. HOWEVER...
I called Apple, expecting to have to pay a charge (no support agreement in force). The tech had me try a couple of things, & then confirmed the problem was due to an issue for which they are extending the warranty (three years). Mine is in under warranty repair now, & no charge for the phone call. Turns out the NVidia graphics card, placed in certain models, is causing this issue. Apple is giving 3 options: -Take yours to an authorized repair center, no charge, -Send to Apple for repair (they sent me the shipping box and authorization), -Or, if you have had yours repaired & were charged for it, they are issuing refunds. Here's a link to the Apple Support page, explaining the issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377?viewlocale=en_US I have already received a Mail response from Apple's Repair Center. Mine is fixed, no charge, & on the way back. I hope this might help some of you having the same issues! Papa Bob |

I read quickly through these post but
for info I had steemouse (to control usb mice and keyboard) and it did prevent a wake from sleep on my iMac; I had to force restart since I Uninstalled steermouse, it is OK, I went back to Logitech Control Center(LCC) 3.0 |
