That isn't the really bad news. The Supreme court just ruled that a Corporation (which isn't even a US citizen) can spend whatever it likes to influence the government.

This significance of this cannot be overstated. You will see the effect very soon with mid-term election campaigns already starting. This essentially frees corporations to elect whomever they like. No one, including big unions, will be able to counteract their fiscal power.

Here is one of my questions. If a full on official multi-national corporation that happens to have one of it's HQs in the USA allowed to funnel money in from say Israel, or the middle east (oil countries), or even say the UK to buy out politicians?

Given the recent Supreme Court ruling I don't think there is any US law to prohibit it.

The biggest threat at the moment is Rupert Murdock. He's already been using his alleged journalists to influence elections, now he can really wreak havoc.

Just saw this on Daringfireball:

It may be too late to help with healthcare, but it's needed anyway.

Saw it yesterday, CWT; very good catch. While the ruling doesn't effect me (Canada has rather strict limitations on this), it certainly needs fixing in the USA.

The only thing that makes me doubt the need for an amendment is that I find myself agreeing with Bill O'Reilly! Usually I can count on his opinion being the opposite of correct. This time I'm going on the assumption that even a blind squirrel eventually finds an acorn.
