Got it a few hours ago. Erase and install. Taking forever to copy over stuff from backup now!
|
Mine was sitting at the front door when I got home last night. Apple gave a dispensation about the signature if a resident wasn't at home.
It went on easily. I upgraded in place since my Macbook is only 2 weeks old. The only nasty so far is that my E220 dongle's driver crashes when I try to install from the CD. It worked OK on 10.5. I'm downloading the latest from HuaWei's site but it's April '08. Wonder if I can run Leopard in a VM with VirtualBox... :) |
I had some glitches getting mine installed. I did an erase and install and then had migration assistant grab my network settings from my time machine backups. This caused 10.6 to load a bunch of System Preferences that were apparently incompatible with it. Sooo, the menu bar was all messed up with things loading and then crashing. I then tried to remove all third party prefs but they seemed to reappear, I have no idea how. In the end I had to wipe out and install again and rebuild all my network and prefs from scratch to make sure they were all up to date. I think PTHpasteboard and istat had the biggest issues. At any rate, it would have been nice if 10.6 would have handled these third party prefs a little better.
I do like it though and does seem a little snappier. |
*starts time machine back up before the install*
wish me luck |
soooo....... SL didn't turn up in the post on Friday... no big deal.... but by 10:30 Sat am still nothing.... So I drove out to the nearest Apple Store and bought a copy.... there was NO WAY I was waiting till Monday or Tuesday...
I got back from the Apple Store to find the postman had delivered my family pack of SL whilst I had been out... :D So I now have a family license and a single license of SL.. :D Looks like I am upgrading my work iMac ... or my mum... On a side note... I am pretty impressed with the speed bump in SL... everything is noticeably faster on my MP and my GF's MB... looking forward to seeing how it performs on my iMac at work in a Windows environment (sorry mum) |

gimmie something new to do lol |
Apple just sent me the latest build like a week ago.....I wonder if that was the final retail build and I wonder if it is a full retail version.
I will need to check it out. |
Before anyone get's to disappointed (kel101), try and keep and mind that the whole point of the operating system was to refine the experience, not to add anything to it. There are some cool new developers tools, but nothing much else. For more info, check here: Snow Leopard.

Hopefully it isnt a sign that apple are running out of ideas? |
I can echo the speed is improved. Opening a .dmg file over the network is much, much quicker.
Not sure about what's happening with Quicktime. The new Perian and Flip4Mac are on but some movies load slower, while the movie is playing. The movie starts earlier but can outrun the loading. Does nothing for the viewing experience. Also, some movies run with the old Quicktime but have the new Quicktime look. |

Grand Central... coupled with OpenCL and 64bit could literally double the computing power of some current computers that are already sat on peoples desk.... not to mention the computers that are yet to be released... I does stand to reason that there could be a graphics card speed war... like there was one with processors a few years back.. Also Exchange support.... I know it may not be a big deal for home users.... but for business users its MASSIVE!.... couple that with Outlook coming back to Mac... there is literally NO reason not to have a Mac at home and at work. I also think a lot of these features that are in SL will suddenly become very clear when Apple do their next bout of announcements on 9th of Sept :) I am a bit disappointed that 10.6 doesn't have LOADS of new features... but I am really pleased with the speed of the OS... its worth every penny... even if I did buy 10.6 twice ;) It feels like ProDrive have taken my A3 Diesel and turned it into an R8. |
So, the sense I'm getting here is that 10.6 is really more like 10.5.9+... for $25 that's not too bad, I guess, and since I'm a great fan of Leopard I don't think I'd be disappointed by SL not being too different. or am I missing something?
