Safari v64

There's a mention of Safari v64 at
http://www.4osx.com/
Anybody know details?

TAB GROUPS!!

Woohoo!

Also, they made the default behavior of tabs to open in the background, command-shift-click now opens them in the foreground (which is the way I think it should be, but you can change this behavior in the debug menu)

Also, it will supposedly allow you to fill out forms using both past forms and address book data, but I haven't got that to work yet.

Still, very neat.

Also, got rid of the annoying bug that would close the whole window instead of individual tabs when hitting command-w after closing a window without tabs.

Is there a way to get this one ?
(Since I couldn't find v62 I'm still with v60 ...)

sapporo 03-07-2003 10:08 AM

Post deleted by griffman...

Please do not post download locations for unreleased software. The 'freeness' of the software has nothing to do with the legality of distributing it prior to its official release.

thanks;

midan23 03-07-2003 10:48 AM

Thanks !!!
I have it, at last ...

Seeing what will happen if you click on a link with some modifier keys pressed is a nice feature ...

(I wish it as new feature on the PC-Version of Internet Explorer ... of course with copyright by Apple ;-))

pithhelmet?

/Users/merv/Library/InputManagers/SIMBL

i understand that will crash the 0.9/v64 beta

macubergeek 03-07-2003 01:18 PM

man you guys are fast ;-)

yeh it was PithHelmet
updated it and everything is now fine!

Yeh
its nice, wonder how these sites are getting this software....if Apple isn't deliberately leaking it....in which case why not just release it on the official web site?

mervTormel 03-07-2003 01:25 PM

leaks. either heads are gonna roll, or it's on purpose.

Hmmm ... can't say I'm having much luck with it here. On some sites it's fine but here (i.e. the forums) it's consistently failing to render the whole page or, more accurately, it's failing to include any scroll bars so I can't see anything other than the top of the page. So, my own guess would be that this was leaked as it doesn't seem anywhere near as solid as v60.

ericw13 03-07-2003 03:13 PM

merv, I gotta believe this is on purpose. I just don't see that a leaked dmg would come complete with a click-through license from apple when mounting the dmg. Or maybe that's just a standard step in compiling the app... wrapping in click-through licensed image.

Who knows.

Stevie runs a very tight ship.
Has to be a deliberate plant.
Why? Dunno, maybe to allow them deny-ability in the event that it erases someone's hard drive ;-)

heh. that's a good one. "No, Sir. I don't like it." i would rather they tested more thoroughly in house and perhaps with a seed to qualified external testers with a wide variety of configs. but, all that requires considerably more effort than 'leaking a seed' :D

djn1, it didn't render this site as you described here. perhaps because i kilt the cache?

Thanks Merv, I emptied the cache and it seems to be working fine now.

bluehz 03-07-2003 05:22 PM

v64 appears to have some serious .css issues. With default css enabled - it renders standard pages in neon green text. Have to turn off the html4.css.

Moving to Coat Room

Guys, I'm sliding this discussion over to the Coat Room because it's not really a help request.

We're thinking about this thread because we're a little nervous about dealing with unreleased Apple software here. We don't have any lawyers. If it winds up getting closed, please don't beat us up too much.

Thanks -- da Management.

Nope, total failure to render this site properly again!!! Despite the tabs I'm reverting to v60.

tamenti 03-08-2003 02:52 AM

I have the same problem with some sites. www.macslash.com and www.macscripter.com both render with nearly nothing. Maclsalsh gives me the background picture and the title, and macscripter gives me the top bar :(

Hmm, both of those sites work well for me in v64 opened as tabs, especially when I go to "macscripter.net" and not "macscripter.com".

:)

tamenti 03-08-2003 11:34 AM

My bad. I meant macscripter.net ;)

Tab Groups

Tab Groups can be found by clicking on a folder in the bookmark bar.

If you are running V64

happy tabs

bluehz 03-10-2003 11:32 AM

If you have a bookmark folder displayed in the Bookmarks Bar that contains several bookmarks (ala sets) - you can open the set (all bookmarks in that folder) in tabs by cmd+clicking on the folder icon for that set in the bookmarks bar.

Note this will replace all your currently open tabs in the front window.

AutoComplete

Any of you gotten autocomplete from address book to work?

xchanyazy 03-10-2003 03:51 PM

I've gotten it to work, but very selectively.

For instance, when it was working at some sites (for instance, amazon), it wouldn't work at others (for instance, ebay). It was always proceeded by keychain asking for permission to decrypt twice.

Really buggy/shaky still, I would wait for the next beta before worrying about using it...

aubreyapple 03-14-2003 02:28 PM

As a matter of interest, v64 does not follow HTTP 302 Document moved but v60 does. The browser just hangs instead of following the referral. First noticed this on attempting to download latest VueScan on MacUpdate but tested it elsewhere with the same result. This can be particularly troublesome when you neglect to put the trailing '/' on a directory url as the server invariably gives a 302 response to add the '/'

Obviously cannot complain, as v60 is the official version, but I submitted bug report anyway.
