Connecting to Internet Issue

I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. I had to reinstall my OS and in doing so my internet connection has had issues. There is a little routine I have to go through to get it working every time I get on my PB.

Here is the sequence to get my internet to work:
1. Open safari..."cannot connect to the internet". My signal is good and my router is selected.
2. From the pulldown from the signal strength..."Create Network"
3. It defaults to my PB name and I say OK.
4. Safari now says (see 1 above).
5. I now select "disconnect from network"
6. Then I select "d-link" my router
7. Safari then works just fine!

Any ideas? I know it is not my router or my cable modem because my desktop and i phone work just fine.

I had to reinstall my OS because a crash during an update took out Safari, Mail, etc... A reinstall of the updates did not fix the problem.

I am happy I can get around this but unhappy that i have to get around this.

Some possibilities:
1. Your router is using WEP and not WPA security. Use WPA2 if possible.
2. Your router is using channel 6, and so are some neighbors.
3. You've got 2.4 Ghz portable telephones in the vicinity.
