Hello everyone,
I have a Intel Imac that was running leopard. Recently it was running very very slow, would hang a lot when moving between Indesign and Photoshop... or even to the finder at times. I chalked this up to running CS2 which is not native to intel Macs. I recently purchased CS3 to fix this. Though noticebly better in performance, the machine would still hang at times (SPINNING rainbow cursor) when changing operations and such.. anyway just yesterday, things got real bad so I was trying a restart and when the machine tried to reboot...I got the circle with the line through it... then it would go to the flashing system folder icon with the question mark. I have no idea why it suddenly lost access to the startup disk, but it did... booting from DVD let me run disk repair (it saw the drive) but the repair would only go about halfway before reporting that it couldnt fix the drive.
I used my laptop to with target boot to access the drive and managed to pull everything off, and then proceeded to wipe the drive and just completely reinstall with a fresh drive.. after I formatted, I ran disk repair again, and everything checked out...I started the install, and now..almost 6 hours later its not even 40% done with the first disk install. I know the install can be time consuming, but this seems excessive.
My longwinded question is, Does this sound like the drive is bad physically? I searched online for some documentation confirming this, but I cant find any. The way the machine was acting earlier sounds suspicious... Of course my warranty was up in Feb :(
anyone have any ideas?
