I recently used time machine to reimage a machine. Now, whenever the guest account is used, the user cannot browse the Internet. Now, parental controls are on, but on the original machine, the guest account had no problem accessing the Internet. It only seems to happen after reimaging.

Thanks

Please give us a LOT more information about the symptom you are seeing, that the user cannot browse the Internet.

What DOES happen when this user tries to browse the internet? What error messages appear?

What DNS Settings are currently set in System Preferences > Network for this user?

Do other internet activities work, such as e-mail, or is this a problem only with the web?

Have you tried multiple web browsers?

What error messages appear in your logs? You can easily view the logs using the Console app, in /Applications/Utilities.

Have you tried creating a new network Location for this user?

Same thing happened to me- EXACTLY!!!! Only this was my son's account, and I HATE to remove the parental controls!
I spent an evening trying to figure out the problem.
Only when I removed parental controls did every thing work ok- so it's definitely the problem.

The web pages won't load, you get a "server not responding" message. When I checked netstat info- it just lists everything as "listening". When you remove parental controls it all works like magic.
Here is more weirdness: iChat access was never affected, but software update would NOT run! (said network problem- not true!).
Email was unaffected, although it was also part of the parental control I had in place (as was iChat).

I'm in the process of wiping the harddrive, doing a clean install, and determining if I can get this account back online. Here's hoping we're back in business!:D
