can't log into the main site ???

Hi,

the new server obviously rocks. Alas, it won't let me log into the main site. It works with the forum site though.... What gives?

Try again ... or try to access it via its IP address, http://207.44.210.206/. The challenge when moving one server to another is the DNS update cycle. It takes a while for the name to spread around to the various servers on the web ... while that's happening, we had pointed the config file at the IP address, and put a redirect on the old name to the new IP.

I just switched the config back to the name, so one of the two methods should be working for you -- try the name or the IP number (you might want to delete the macosxhints.com cookies first, if you remember your password)...

[Edit] We knew there'd be some turmoil on the cutover, but the problems we had with the other server this weekend sort of forced our hands...

Rob, thanks for your quick reply. I deleted the old cookie and tried to log in using my old password. No luck. As I said, Ican reach the site, name or IP doesn't matter, I can log into the forums no problem, but I can't log into the main site (I miss being greeted when I click my bookmark...:D ). Could this be a Safari issue (there are numerous problems with cookies)?

Nope, I used Safari all last night while testing.

Try the lost password function and see what happens -- enter a username and password that you know are not valid, and the next screen gets you a "lost password" function -- it should email you a new password.
