Gibberish in Text File

I started out using TextWrangle for text files, but tried Smultron for a while. Didn't work out, as I don't like tabs on the side so I went back to TW.

But now the info in my text files has gibberish where many capital letters should be. I can copy and paste text into this forum white-window and it becomes fine, but can't read it in my Notes files.

I am sure this is an encoding issue, but do not know how to fix. Have set in TW preferences default encoding to UTF8 no BOM, but no luck. Why is this an issue? Why is there any question which encoding it should be for American English?

Does the problem continue if you switch fonts? Is it a corrupted font issue, not an encoding issue?

Can you show us a screen shot, so we can see what manner of gibberish this might be?

Hm, thanks, changing the font fixed it. Was on Lucida Grande so I switched to Lucida Console and back. Now it's fine.

Ben it was MICR characters, square root, and others instead of some capitalized, but not all. I guess it's a bug in TW.

Sure wish TW had tabs at top or bottom.
