View Full Version : Safari user agent

I am running the beta of safari 3.0.3 and Iíve found many sites that I have to change the user agent from automatic to Safari 2.0.4. When I make the change, all is well.

Is there a way through a terminal entry to make the user agent permanent?

I can remember I found a way to do this in safari 2, but Iíve lost the code and I canít seem to find it on the net.

Many Thanks

found via google. (http://www.rubyrobot.org/article/spoofing-the-user-agent-for-awstats-with-safari-or-firefox)

It’s also a good idea to send an email to the site contact person, telling them politely that they need to make the site "Safari friendly." Otherwise, their logs show that everyone’s using IE.

Thanks Alex,

I have sent emails to many of the sites like amex and chase but i doubt it will get fixed. It seems that the safari 2.0.4 user agent works but whichever the automatic one that is chosen doesn't.
Makes me wonder.

I wrote this into the terminal to force the user agent string.
This sets it to safari 2.0.4.

defaults write com.apple.Safari CustomUserAgent "\"Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/419 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/419.3\""

I hope this helps someone else who has the same problems!
