Installing Wordpress Locally

I followed the tutorial here >http://maczealots.com/tutorials/wordpress/<
and everything runs fine until i run >http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php< where i get the following error message:

“Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.
Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?”

I've already checked and double checked the following:

-My password is also properly entered in wp_config.php.
-The Loadmodule and Addmodule lines have been de-commented.
-The Web server is up and running; I can access my regular index.html site from my browser.
-Php works fine.


I really need to get this up and running. Anything I could try?

I think you misunderstand the error messages - it's not your username it needs, it's the database username/password.

Do you have mySQL installed and running? It's not part of Apache and it's not pre-installed on 10.3 client (it IS preinstalled on 10.3 server)

If you open the Terminal and type: (press return after)

mysql

what do you get in return? "command not found" or "access denied" ?

One more thing about wordpress, it has to know where it is on the internet. "localhost" will work only if you want to use it from your own computer and nowhere else. You will need a global domain name at some point.
