Transfer Number

My number is with U.S. Cellular but under my wife's name (for simplicity reasons when we got married). If I buy an iPhone under my name, don't I need the current number under my name? My wife can't transfer the number to me after I buy an iPhone, can she?

This sounds like something you'd need to contact the carrier to do, but I'd definitely wait until after her number is transferred to the iPhone.
