View Full Version : invoking acrobat distiller without showing its GUI

Hi all

I have to convert the PS files to PDF file using Acrobat Distiller(with Applescript) which I am able to do perfectly.

>>Only problem is when it encounters the "Distill" command the Distiller's GUI gets pop up.

I do not want to show up this GUI to user. Is there any way not to show UI to user??

I don't think so. Unless you make sure that Distiller is already running and hidden. But even then, I think that it will come to the foreground when you distil something.

Perhaps you could invoke the Unix pstopdf command instead?

I'm going to be no help here, as I wouldn't have the foggiest how to go about it...howevere I think it might be possible. The reason is, older versions of Quark (before getting their own built-in PDF engine) could export to PDF by accessing an installed copy of Distiller. My memory is fading now, but I thought that it did it without the UI popping up.

Also does it have to be done with Distiller, or can you use the OS built-in PDF engine? (IE. Preview)
