Would a formatted mac mini have all that comes pre-installed?

I don't remember the exact number but my 60GB drive had probably something like 20GB of stuff on it right out of the box.

I only have 2 install disks that came with it. Even assuming that they are double layer DVDs that's 9GB total. Even with compression it's a far stretch to 20GB.

Are there some applications that come pre-installed and that I would lose if I ever formatted and reinstalled from scratch?

No, I don't think so, but the files on the DVDs are probably compressed and are expanded on copying them during installation, which might explain how so much data is stuffed onto the installation disks.

On second thought, I'm not absolutely sure about the "trial" version of Microsoft Office...I simply don't recall. But I THINK it is included in the complete installation from disks.
