View Full Version : Mail 2.1 crashes downloading mail

Mail crashes every time I download mail, except mail I send to myself.
This occurs in other user logins, too. This occurred for the first time on waking, with no known programs or updates downloaded prior. The mail crash log is always the same, I think, just different threads crash. Help would be greatly appreciated!

The reference to "JunkMailGlobalMap" in the crash report indicates that the problem is something to do with Junk mail handling.

I think the Junk mail training data is in a file named something like "LSMMap2" under the folder "Library/Mail" under your home folder.
So try moving that file to the Desktop (when Mail is not running) and then log out and in again and try Mail again.

I've done as you suggested.
Now to wait for some mail to come.
Thanks for the help!

Mail crashed again after I closed Mail, moved the ~Library>mail>LSMMap2 file to the desktop, logged out and back in. I repeated those steps, then rebooted just to make sure. It crashed. Same thing in the other user accounts.

I then set junk mail filtering settings so that it treated all incoming mail as possibly junk and Mail crashed with both send and receive. The last thing the Activity Monitor says is "routing messages". Disabling junk mail filtering seems to cure the problem, but how can I get the filter to work again? More thoughts?

I don't have anything to suggest except perhaps setting up a new email account, exporting all your saved mail messages and then importing them to the new account.
Don't delete the old account until you have successfully imported the mail messages from it - deleting an email account will delete all the saved messages on that account.

No progress thus far? I'm having the exact same problem with my brand new MBP running 10.4.8, except I also copied my mail folder from my old TiBook, which I suppose could have created problems... I'll try turning off the junk mail filter (not that it helps, anyways)...

Update: Alright, its still crashing even with Junk mail filtering turned off... I had PithHelmet installed for Safari, as well as the SIMBL loader, but I removed those and still had problems (even though they aren't related to mail...)
The only other possible culprit I can think of (besides mail) would be growlmail.. though I find that unlikely

It still dies trying "rout" the mail, though it usually says "message 1 of 1" even if there are many more than 1 new message...

And the Console has no error messages (Oh i have MailTags installed too, how do I uninstall that? I'll have to go prowl...)
