 I just read at MacFixIt (10-2-02) that OS X 10.2.1 needs permissions repaired whenever you re-boot after booting in OS 9!

This probably isn't a problem for most of you, but I still use lots of audio editing software in 9 that hasn't been updated for X yet; I am booting in and out of OS 9 sometimes 5 and 6 times a day! Repairing permissions each time will be very time consuming! (maybe I'll do it every other time).

Disk Utility isn't scriptable otherwise I would have written a script that took care of it. The only thing I can think of doing is making Disk Utility a login item to remind myself to repair permissions at startup.

Is there a way to repair permissions any other way -- and is that way able to be automated somehow?

I found that post interesting also. But it seems to me that the writer was running the permissions utility because his system was, for some reason, dysfunctional. Watching what gets repaired after booting into OS 9, I get only a half dozen files out of 60,000 that need adjusting (and they are the same files each time). I would guess that unless you see failure in your system after going to 9, you needn't run the utility very often. Watch the log and see what you think.

yeah, i'm not sure of the veracity of that MFI report.

what are the negative effects of not repairing permissions after a boot to OS9. i found that lacking.

anyhow, look for corroboration before fretting.
