Hide Macintosh HD icon

I try to hide the icon "Macintosh HD" icon on the desktop and in the Finder window of the user. What is the best way to accomplish this?
I try to login via the terminal to change via the command line, but not successful. Thanks for any tips.

Click the desktop, so that the Finder is the frontmost application. Go to the Finder menu, select Preferences, go to the General tab, uncheck Show these items on the Desktop: Hard disks.
