Help: dmg.1, dmg.2 etc problem joining

I have 4 files that are:

name.dmg.1
name.dmg.2
name.dmg.3
name.dmg.4

I have tried Split & Concat, Stuffitt, using the Terminal, and a number of other apps to join the files but not succefull yet.

Any ideas?

Where did these files come from? What is on them?
Didn't the creator of these files tell you how to use them?
Usually you just double-click on the first of the sequence and it automatically loads the others and mounts the reassembled DMG.
