When Jag first came out, I saw some warnings against installing the Server Admin tool that comes with OS X Server 10.1.4 on Jag. Is this still the case? Is there an update to Server Admin?

Thanks.

Server 10.2 splits what used to be "Server Admin" into two new applications: "Server Settings" and "Workgroup Manager." There is also "Server Status", which seems to be primarily useful for Xserve owners; it doesn't report much for my G4 tower.

Server Settings looks much like the old Server Admin, except that the users and groups controls are removed. Workgroup Manager is slower than molasses when run remotely (what in *hell* is it shuttling over my ADSL line that takes a minute per new user???), but it works.

You can't connect to a 10.2 server using a 10.1.x version of Server Admin; it just gives you a dialog box telling you to upgrade.

sfleming,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, that's not what I'm asking.

I have a client machine running 10.2. I have a Server machine running 10.1.5. Can I put the Server Admin program for Server 10.1.5 on a client machine running Jag? I remember reading that it overwrote some system files or something, has this been fixed. I don't want to install it because I don't want to hose my system. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Thanks!

Whoops, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Hmm. I had precisely that configuration running for a while (after I upgraded my client, before I upgraded my server). I had all sorts of SERVER flakiness during that period (some of it documented here), but the CLIENT machine was solid as a rock. From your description, it should have been the other way around...

So -- I don't know. Anything on Apple's site?
