not sure how to set up an email server

I currently am using my 7100 for an email server, but i have been wanting to set up my imac as my email server but i am not sure how to do it and i have a few questions. My computer stats are in my signature. The 7100 has been doing great for the email, it is just physically in the way. My first question is, i am currently on X.1.5 on my machines, is it easier to set this up on Jag or does it not matter? also does it matter if there is a domain name server on the same machine? or is that a bonus? I want to be able to use the mail program from the OS to check my mail, also my brother uses eudora and my father uses entorage so i would like to continue to be able to use these programs. I have it set up currently that you have to be inside my LAN to be able to check your account and to send an email. this is not a must, but would be nice, at least for right now. I am also assuming that the mail server is installed by default in the normal install of the OS and you just have to activate it and change some settings, but i am not sure what they are.
