What Am I Missing?

Computer: Powerbook Wallstreet, with a Skyline PCMCIA Wireless card.

Home set up is a Farallon wireless router. Everything works well.

Friend of mine has an ABS using a dialup connection. My Skyline card cannot pick up the signal from the ABS.

Another friend has ABS using cable modem. My Skyline card picks up that signal fine.

Distance is not the issue since the Powerbook was right next to each base station.

What's going on?

Is there any software difference between the two airports? Ie, when they use their AirPort Admin Utility to connect to their respective ABSs, is there any difference? (other than name and potential password...)

When the base station is setup just as a dialup modem, I do not believe it is setup to share access by default. You friend with the dialup connection may have to go into his Airport Admin Utility and configure it to share the internet connection. Otherwise verify that the base station software and firmware are up to date and /or comaptible with the wireless card you are using.
