Here is the story....

I work at a PC *NOT MAC* store, and woman traded her powerbook in for credit to a new desktop. Somehow, I ended up with this Bronze Lombard 333mhz...

The problems.
1) It didnt boot.
2) When I got it to boot, it had inverted colours.
3) The OS had been wiped.
4) The notorius pb' slipping lcd was in FULL effect
5) When I got os x, the performance sucked in anything

The Fixes....
1) Removed keyboard, then heatsink, then ram, then firmly pressed down where the ram was to reset the logic board
2) Eventually 1/2 assed fixed it in OS X in the Expert color mode; I basically got it as close to being re-inverted as I possibly could. Now I just have a yellow tint at most viewing angles.
3) eBay
4) Seriously, still need help on this one.
5) Attempting to perform this hint:

That brings me to my current trouble. I have gotten into the info.plist file, and found and added the Lombard identity to the file, but it simply wont let me effing save it. :( The author of the article mentioned something bout changing the file from the 'root'. This happens to be my first mac, and many of you may laugh/and or ridicule me, but how do I do that??

*Also, any tips on the aforementioned problems will be greatly appreciated, and I am also currently in the hunt for a CD version of OS9, as I cannot use DVD's without getting a dvd player, a pcmcia card, and an hour of aggrovation to get it to work.

Thanks dearly;

2. If the colors are inverted in OS X, that is because of a feature of OS X to help people with limited vision. You can toggle the inverted colors on and off with Control-Option-Command-8. OR, you can switch it in System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing tab > Display.

4. You're going to have to tell us what "the notorious pb' slipping lcd" is. This seems to be something well known to you, but I've never heard of anything by that name, or even close to that name.

By the way, you do know that the Lombard (http://lowendmac.com/pb2/lombard.shtml) is from last century, right? And that Tiger is not supported? I'm not sure what kind of performance you are expecting, but I suspect your time and money would be better spent on something that is at least from the last couple of years.

The author of the article mentioned something bout changing the file from the 'root'.
No laughing, but it is rather dangerous to use the root user at the best of times, and is definitely not something to do for someone not aware of what is going on. You'd be best off NOT using root user.

If you want to get temporary root user privileges, when you are typing a command, precede it with sudo (and a space). So if you want to run the top command as root user, you would type
sudo top
