i have noticed in jag that when you go to shutdown in the menu it takes jag at least 3-4 times longer  to shut down than it did before! anyone else notice this or have any ideas why.

Yes, I've noticed that, also. I get that new spinning cursor for about 20 seconds before shutdown. Bootup is a lot quicker, though. I have the feeling that Apple moved a file system check from bootup to shutdown, so boot times would be faster. I haven't seen any confirmation of that, though.

I too, experienced this, but I found that you can hasten it considerably by:
1. logging out (cmd-shift-Q)
2. shutting down from the login screen.
This is tons faster than the usual way.
why? I have no idea. But try it, it works.

I've noticed the same thing.
I don't feel that startup is all that quicker though. I have the grey apple and spinner thingie for quite a while, but once the Mac OSX screen shows up with the progress bar, it goes faster.
Maybe it's my imagination.
