How do I enable Quartz Extreme graphics?

I dowloaded this little homemade app from the normal Mac OS X hints site.

Check if Quartz Extreme is being used

I just found this neat little app at Marc Liyanage's site that shows you if your video card is using Quartz Extreme. Thanks to Marc for providing such an useful tool (along with his MySQL, PHP, and other packages, as well!).

It came back failed, and I was just wondering how to enable it?

thanks

Apple says the following:

Requirements:
Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video GPUs: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti or any AGP-based ATI RADEON GPU. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required

Unfortunately, the ATI Rage 128 does not qualify.

Ya, Rage not supported...but there is a hack for enabling PCI Radeons (http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=8300945231&m=7390915135) that I tried but returned the settings to factory when my display was all fouled up upon wake from sleep TWICE and the only way to recover was to push the reset button on the front of my G3/350.

This topic is covered more extensively in this thread (http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4730), btw.
