View Full Version : Photoshop PDF and Sportlight...?

If I save a Photoshop CS document
as a «Photoshop PDF,» does that mean that Spotlight
can idex all the live text inside...?

( The text is «live» text, not bitmapped. )

Here's an easy way to find out.

Open the PDF in Preview, open the Drawer, and search for some text. If Preview can find it, I would think Spotlight will see it eventually.

In case you don't get a response from someone who has experience with this - why not just try it. Save your PDF, wait several minutes, then try doing a Spotlight search for some words that are in the PDF.

But I note that Spotlight relies on applications providing an indexing tool for the file types they create. There is of course a system-supplied tool for indexing PDFs so I imagine it will work on the PDFs created by Photoshop.

I just tried it. It works. Just make sure, when saving from Photoshop, to not select "Use Outlines for Text".

Related, I found this on Apple's site (http://www.apple.com/macosx/tips/spotlight.html):

Spotlight and Photoshop
Spotlight can search for information that is specified using the Photoshop File Info... command including description, copyright, keywords and author. Even more exciting for Photoshop users is that Spotlight can search for the name of any layer found in a PSD document. If you are working on a project and are trying to find that Photoshop image with a text layer but forgot the filename, just search on the text layer and Spotlight will find it for you.

Hmmm...

How do I force Spotlight to index a file...?
I’ve been waiting for a while
and it still does not work for me.

...and, BTW, I put the test file on my Desktop.
Could that be the problem...?
( Surely Spotlight shines on the Desktop, too...? )

It was not the Desktop location.

Spotlight still does not see the Photoshop PDF
but sees the same file saved as plain Photoshop.
It found the second one virtually instantly.

A bug in Spotlight or Photoshop PDFs...?
