I have a iMac OSX 10.3 and a Windows XP Dell Computer.
I want to create a tempory network so that I can transfer my picture library from my mac to my windows. I have a ethernet cable (not crossover), and on my mac I have a speedtouch USB modem to connect to the internet. Is there any way I can connect to my windows, and if there is can you please give step by step instructions on how to do it. I'll try to give you as much information as possible, but please remember I'm not great on computers, so layman terms are appreachated.

(FYI, when I simply connect the ethernet cable between both computers the Windows says that the connection status is: "Limited or no connectivity" and on the mac, in system prefrences -> network, the 'built-in ethernet' light is orange)

Thanks in advance

Set up ethernet manually on both computers. On the Mac go to network Prefs > Show built-in ethernet > TCP/IP tab. set Configure IPv4 Manually. enter IP address 192.168.1.10. Go to Sharing Prefs and make sure Windows sharing is on.

On the PC, go to Start > Connect to > Show all connections. Create a new connection. Set up a home or office network. Select Other, and Does not connect to the internet in the next two dialogs. Accept name you already have. For workgroup, enter MSHOME (Mac default). Turn on printer and file saring. Finish the wizard. After restarting, you have to go back to this new connection, right click and select "properties." Find TCP/IP and click Properties. Use the following address: 192.168.1.11.

Set up for sharing on the PC by going to my computer and right clicking the local Disk C: and selecting properties.

Connect from the Mac using the Finder's GO menu > Connect to server > Browse.

Hope I haven't missed anything important.
Good luck.
