View Full Version : 10.2 outside the box

I noticed that there are many special offers for Apple's new system 10.2, such as $50 rebates etc. etc.
These seem to be only available in the United States.
Do you think it's possible that Apple/Amazon know that they have users outside "the center of the universe"?
Also, the price of sale is not in parity with the Euro and Dollar rate. I think there is a term called "fleeced". Which is how I feel here, with .Mac and 10.2.
I will spend the money but now Apple belong in my mindbox in a different category, they had a special place with Bang and Olufsen. Now they belong with Tommy Hilfiger. Trendy, possibly useful, exploitative of a visible minority.

Two U.S. companies offering discounts to U.S. customers. I don't see the problem.
If you spend the money, Apple won't learn anything. There is only one thing they care about: selling products.

I agree. I have decided not to make the move to Jaguar. I don't NEED it, and don't want it at full price, or even at the Apple discounted rate for education or government employees. As a customer, I believe I deserve an upgrader's discount. I'll stick with 10.1.5, move to Linux, or go back to 9.

I'm with wayneyoung on this one. Money Talks BS Walks. I wonder what the cost of 10.2 will be 6 months from now?

$129 (US)
This isn't going to go away. Nor do I think it should. There really are a lot of new and usefull things in Jaguar that make it worth the money. All I want for free is a patch that lets the dial-up connection stay up for more that 10 min....

Agreed. I don't remember 10.1's price dropping six months after its release. Bad example, I know, but the point is how much ill feeling would THAT dredge up? If Apple dropped the price after six months (or whatever), they'd manage to have pissed off their ENTIRE user base - those who held out were obviously pissed off to begin with, and those who bought 10.2 a month before the lower prices were announced would be pissed off that the holdouts had basically got a cheaper product off their subsidy.
No, Apple will sit this one out. I've said it before (after some initial knee-jerk reactionary mouth-shooting) and I'll say it again - £100 is more than reasonable for what I'm getting. OS 10.1 works absolutely fine for me. 10.2 isn't a bug fix, it's OS 8 to OS 9. This is a version upgrade. I'll pony up, I'll be happy about it (looking at Apple's previous lack of "upgrade" prices).
I've done the maths, and I'll still have paid less for Beta, 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 TOGETHER than Win2k cost me for my (practically unused) beige box.
As for the lack of UK pricing - what pisses me off is the lack of a UK price for .mac as of yet. Looks like we all have to find some $$$ for that bad boy... and I don't have a credit card :(
