After some tinkering tonight I re-installed OSX and I simply cannot get the boot drive to be named anything other than "/", does anyone know what I have to do to make the boot drive show up as something other than "/" on the desktop??

Thanks

You want to rename your hard drive? I think the only way to do that (for some unknown reason) is to boot back into 9 and change it there.

When your startup volume is named "/", that means you have installed OS X on a UFS formatted volume. Did you? The usual advice is to install OS X on an HFS + formatted volume. (Given that you have installed OS X on a UFS formatted volume, you can change the name of the volume to something other than "/". But it will revert to "/" after a restart.)

You should definitely check out Apple's KB article 106191 entitled "Startup Volume is named "/" instead of Mac OS X".
