i found this, and although it's based on one person's view on the events that have unfolded the last few days with apple and intel, the author does make it sound like something rather interesting is going on... something big, maybe...

it is not what Apple would do, it is up to Intel to buy Apple, thus exposing themselves to the same kind of anti-trust, monopoly situation that plagues that other OS company.

Cringely is always entertaining and thought provoking to read. I don't see Steve Jobs as a second banana or running a division instead of a company. As long as he is at Apple I think Apple will be independent. Cringely's scenario ends with Jobs leaving Apple for bigger and better things, but I think Jobs will be running Apple for 5 or 10 more years.
