I bought a semitech USB to Serial adaptor, plugged it in, did not create any tty for it. ie no COM port. It doesn't come with any driver (only windows). I ran the usbprober, it detected the device as a USB to serial. Any one has similar adaptor and got it working?

What do you want to do with it?

I was about to use it to configure some cisco eqpt. Was trying to get zterm to work with it, but a check on /dev did not reveal any tty for this device.

Any luck with this? I just bought one off eBay, and can't find a driver for it anywhere.

Hi,

First post on this forum!

I have also bought a USB-Serial Cable from eBay, which I believe to be a SemiTech one, based on the output from Mac OS X Tiger's System Profiler.

I wish to connect my Goodmans GDB2 Freeview box to the computer (maybe using ZTerm) to upgrade the software to prevent the box from freezing.

However, I can't find drivers either!

Can anybody help with a driver? or provide suggestions on how I can achieve this upload to the box (I have tried using HyperTerminal on a PC, but it failed to transfer the file properly).

Many thanks for any help out there.

Colin.

Ok folks,

You need to go into the HID section of your Device Manager. One of the HID devices's descriptions will be the USB to serial. You need to go into it's properties and update the driver from the CD.

Then it moves out of the HID area and moves into the Ports secton as SemiTech USB -> Serial driver

Is there any way you could make that a little clearer please vlad? I've got the same problem with a semi-tech usb to serial converter. I don't have a device manager and I don't know what an HID section is...

please, please help...
