View Full Version : Check whether your new business logo infringe a copyright

I came up with a new logo for a small business company.
How is it possible to check if the new logo infringes anybody's copyright (their logo)?
The logo is a creation with two initials.
For example, if the company name is MicroSoft, I made the new logo using M and S.

That's more a question for your lawyer than a computing forum. Logos are trademarked rather than copyright, you could start with the Patent and Trademark office (http://www.uspto.gov/)
Or just use it and see if anyone sues you :(
Unless it looks similar to, is used in the same industry and is attempting to confuse the consumer with an existing, recognizeable logo then you're proably fine.

In some countries you can get onto the intellectual property department site (or whatever they might be called where you are: patents, trademarks, copyright etc etc - check with the govt) and do a search by various parameters, and possibly even see a picture of logos.

You can also do an Image search on Google for instance: "MS logo" to get, in this instance, 48,900 examples of logos in use.
