View Full Version : Open Office 2.0

Can someone tell me if this is going to take a long time to run? I know the current version is an X11 thing so will this one be more quick to open like NeoOfficeJ, without X11? And does anyone know a release date?

I checked their site but it has no release date that I found.

v2.0 has been talked about for a long time.

The X11 version takes a long time to open, but not as long as NeoOfficeJ. Once open, it seems to me the two run about the same -- decently well (except for the Presentation program, which loses a lot when importing Powerpoint).

It's been reported that development has stopped on the native Mac interface version of OpenOffice. So it's either X11-based OpenOffice or Java-based NeoOfficeJ, as far as I know.

I've pretty much given up on both of them.

I wish I were skilled enough to give them a hand. Too bad because this is such a noble cause. If this compiled right out of the box, it could grow to rival all office suites, until then it is useful for those without means but that start up is longer than booting OS9, horrible. Of the 2 I have to prefer the java. What a shame.:(
