Hey, I'm just off the boat from MacOSX.com boards. Since the Admin is enforcing a Zero-Free Thought rule now, me and many others are leaving. I'd just like to say Howdy and I hope to have a great time here and meet lots of new people.
Also, if you're coming over from MacOSX.com due to the Admin, feel free to post in here so we can all reunite.

Howdy :D
These forums are pretty nice, hopefully I'll have time to start participating a little more soon. Right now, I'm trying to get in contact with some former MacOSX.com members and find out where everyone is going.

Welcome to refugee camp X. :D
We mostly try to stay to tech matters here, but I think you'll find many of us have left places which had ownership changes to parent companies more interested in recruiting unpaid labor than in providing healthy communities. I pretty much left all 3.
Explore the forums (and the main site) and you'll get a pretty good feel for what we're about here, I think.
Did RacerX invite you, or were you already aware of us?

Stay as long as you like and enjoy your stay. We have many refugees here from all around the globe.;) We may be smaller but it sure is friendlier around here.

hi everyone!

looks like quite a few of us are going to be coming here ... nice to have a new home (certainly seems far more comfortable than the old one ... :D)
thanks for the warm welcome, i'm looking forward to getting to know everyone around here ... :)

Hello.
I was invited by RacerX. I'm not just crashing the party. :)
I want to know what's happening over at MOSX. Can anyone fill me in? Sithious, do you have something to share?
Email me or PM me if you want, or ignore the request if you don't want to talk about it.

What's up fellas? Well the Admin has gone completely ape. I am basically just staying around for the amusement to see what comes of it all. This place looks really good to me .. hopefully we can get Ed, simx, admiral and the others to come over as well.
It would almost be funny if he weren't detroying such a large community of friends.

Glad to have you guys here! :D

Avatars are disabled.
And look for this post in the Site News at MOSX:
This post may be deleted before it ever hits the boards. If so, I'm not coming back.
What the heck is up?
I have heard rumors that sithious was banned for questioning the removal of some of Jadey's posts. Those posts, according to what I have heard, provide some positive and some negative reviews of Press3.
It'd be very sad if this is true. Admin, can you explain this? Or dispute it?
There's my stand. If I don't see it, I'll be sad to let all that history go.

hey everyone, nice to see the gang coming together again so quickly ... :)
it's just a shame it's under such sad circumstances ... no idea what has happened to admin at macosx.com...
he seems to have lost it ...
apparently all posts are now being filtered before they appear on the boards ... weird. for some reason admin is trying to make anyone or any post that he doesn't agree with just vanish off the face of the earth.
anyway, thanks to everyone that supported me with pms and postings and whatever ... :) nice to know i've got such good friends ... :D :D

It seems that my post will not show up on MOSX. It's been over an hour, and all of my other posts showed up within five minutes.
I've posted to my congrats thread that I will no longer be a part of MOSX, but I didn't give any reasons.
If for some reason that post gets deleted, please feel free to distribute my email address, nkuvu@mac.com

Just a disclaimer: I was only kidding about post counts. There were a number of us who kept insisting to others that post counts don't matter. But there were others posting for the number, not the content.
I like avatars, but I can live without them.
I definitely rate quality over quantity. I'm just a little shocked at what happened over there. Give me a day or two to find my marbles (I've lost my marbles, doncha know :) ) and I'll be fine.

welcome all.
I think it is a shame what happened to MacOSX. com. I left the board when idiots (sorry, I just hate this guy) like xoot post one senseless thread after another and when I come back after a while, all hell broke lose, you are no longer allowed to say what you like, and you even get banned when you say something agains the admin. That stinks. These methods have been tried several in history...:( ...and always failed
anyway, hi to all
:D
I am so sad to see MacOSX.com go down the drain like it has.
The solution was SOOOOOO simple. When I first mentioned censorship in the thread that sparked all this debate, Admin could have just taken those two words ("suck" and "piss") off the banned words list, and I would have been completely content. If he had done that, it would show that he was completely reasonable, and nothing would've happened.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and to use a cliché, the rest is history.
I'm giving Admin one last chance, and I suggest you all do the same. Don't go to MacOSX.com for a few days, or even a week. Hopefully things will be settled down by then, and then maybe we can have an intelligent discussion with Admin about the policies. He usually seems to be very reasonable – that is, until recently.
I'm glad to see that all of you have found a new home, and I hope that these forums become what MacOSX.com once was.
However, I think that my days on forums are over. I need to gain those countless hours of my life back. The whole controversy over MacOSX.com has shown me that most of the arguments on the internet are not worth it, and they all end in something similar: Hotline, GameRanger, and now MacOSX.com have all ended in some sort of ridiculous event forcing me to leave the community. Every time, I have lost something beautiful that I thought was really invincible.
So while I would love to get back into the normal life of forum posting, I don't think it will be worth my while. Know that I'm not saying that the community here on macosxhints.com will end up in the same way, but that I just don't want to invest that much time in the internet anymore. I have seriously contemplated even giving up my computer altogether – I just find myself lazing around in my room checking a forum site or Mac news websites constantly. I'm starting to get a little disgusted with myself, and that's not good.
I guess what I'm trying to do is basically say a goodbye. Many of the people who have come here from MacOSX.com are awesome members, and I hope that macosxhints.com will grow into the forum community that MacOSX.com once was. I may stop by from time to time to see what's happening.
If you ever want to reach me, don't hesitate to e-mail me (simX@mac.com), ICQ me (43288849), AIM me (simsimbean or simX@mac.com), or private message me here (simX), at the macrumors.com forums (simX), or at the appleturns.com forums (simX).

I feel with you, SimX. Same with me. I feel sad. MacOSX was a cozy place, we knew each other (at least a bit), we spent HOURS together there (in some way at least) and talked over much stuff. Now, we come here, but at the beginning, it just doesn't feel right. We enter a new community which doesn't know us, we don't know who the Herve of this forum is etc. etc.
but well, we can try to make the best out of it.
btw: I just red that EVERY post over at MacOSX has to be approved by the admin! EVERY! That's so redicilous. First I thought the Admin was just pissed by people not agreeing with him, but this??? I now replied an empty response to this statement from the admin with a lonely roll-eyes-smiley in it...I am interested if he changes it into a grinning smiley...talking about moderated posts...

Whassup everyone!
I have left the MacOSX.com camp and have joined anew here!
We need Herve! Someone should send him an e-mail!
Who's our bartender? I need a drink after all that protesting!
Anyways, if you haven't seen my signature on MacOSX.com, it goes like this!
As dricci said (before he was banned)... We live in a free world and cannot be owned. Just say NO to Press3 Thread Censorship.
Therefore, I will no longer participate here. I'm protesting this whole censorship issue. Thanks for the good times while it lasted.
from a friend, sithious, who is now banned
so it's happened.
i dared to ask admin why he's been deleting certain threads.
my account has been disabled.
obviously i am no longer welcome here.
it honestly hurts me to turn my back on the macosx.com community, as i've had some great times here, made some good friends, and learnt a lot.
unfortunately, the community we built up is disintegrating ...

...could anyone explain the Admin of this board what the Herve's Bar and Grill thread was (my english is not good) and ask if we are allowed to open it here???
BlingBling 3k12
06-10-2002, 05:21 PM
ulrik, you're added!
to the admin of this board, this is what he was talking about:
this thread may die a quick death or it might become a classic. But it has come to my attention that there is no thread for just yakking. Yes several of us do it in our 'congrats' threads, but my guess is those seem like private parties to most folks. so i am proposing this thread as a place where everyone is welcome to come and blow off steam, talk nonsense, report your daily adventures, complain about your parents, whine about your job, share your latest accomplishment, etc. In other words just like the atmosphere at your local bar or coffee shop.
I decided to name the establishment after Herve since he has probably started more off the wall conversations with his topical posts than any other single individual. So now Herve can add 'Official Bar Owner' to his resume if he would like
This is not a cuss thread, though strong language should be ok. keep verbal assaults to a minimum. no jokes about my mother. making jokes about your own mother is ok. wheeeeeeing is allowed but not encouraged. clothes are optional
that thread later on became it's own forum... currently stands at over 3500 posts in that one thread... an unknown number for that whole forum
ulrik
06-10-2002, 05:24 PM
Hey, I don't know wether it is possible or not, but could dricci try to rename this thread to Herve's Bar & Grill? I really don't wanna red that word "Press3" in this forum that often...

For all of the refugees:
I'd like to suggest that anyone who has left MacOSX.com change their avatar to reflect the change in status. BlingBling made a very good avatar, and has updated his sig to show the significance of Admin's actions. I think it would be beneficial to see how far this goes.
Ed mentioned another forum, macfora.com, which may be able to satisfy all your avatar needs. For now, though, don't you think we should try to see how this new environment works before asking to change it? ;)

That's not very nice to the kind people over here :) I must agree that having everyone at a certain board would help though. This forum is great for it's name though, OS X Hints :D I don't see why it would be so hard to coordinate between the two.

i wasn't talking about the whole forum... i was just talking about our "Refuge from MacOSX.com/Press3" thread... this forum is great... i like it, i visit it (i will be alot soon!), and i'll post in it... but for the bar & grill, i think the one Ed set up would be better...
plus, with us and all our "wdw_ in..." photos, we might just end up shuttin this site down because of all the bandwidth! :p
note to admin here... don't worry, we won't do that... we may take it to the brink of crashing, but not a full scale shutdown! :p
I am more than happy to announce my arrival here at MacOSXHints.com forums safly! I've left MacOSX.com for good, as Admin's evil ways will not stop.
I was thinking of orginizing a rebelian force against Admin and his fellow MacOSX.com'ers who think what they're doing is right. But since most members left before I could contact them I havn't orginized anything.
...I'm so glad to see you all again! You have no idea! :D

I’ve also left MacOSX.com..
I think admin started censoring Macosx.com for a few reasons.
1. He found out how young lots of us are
2. He recently became a father.
I think these were big factors in his attitude change.

Same here... offensive posts didn't matter... in fact, i liked em... gave me a good laugh every once in a while! Especially that cuss thread! :p Anyways, I will give MacOSX.com one more chance in the new week when Admin is taking a break...
I hope it is all cleared up and settled by then.
I will also check this forum along with the one at Macfora.com... these are all great forums and I don't know why I didn't start posting in them earlier... I guess it was because MOSX was the one and only place I needed to go... but in a way, this whole thing has turned out for the better (we'll see in a week or two).
Goodbye, it's sleep time... see you guys tomorrow.
Hi all! :)
I've also arrived here. I'm not really a part of the conflict at macosx.com, but I don't accept and I don't like it...

Howdy, Kris. As you can see, the Bar & Grill is elsewhere, but we're still here for talking about computer stuff. :)
Same for all of ya's. Don't be strangers. Diversity is good.

I am happy to say that I will continue to post here and at MacFora. I am not sure about MOSX.
I think you should at least try to go back. I know that it will take a while for things to go back the way they used to be, but at least give it a chance, if you don't, things will never be the same again...
So here I am.
I've given MacOSX.com many chances, but what happened yesterday is completely unacceptable. I do not want to be a part of a community controlled by fascistic and discriminating rules, and being watched and cencored by a team of dictatoric moderators, and I won't put my foot there again until I've heard a real apology and my emails to the administrators aren't getting ignored.
Great to see so many of you here :)

Wow, this thread grew! Hi to all :)
Is the rumor true that the admin is reading over every post at macosx.com, or is that paranoia speaking?
I don't know if I could return to those forums. I had really wanted to. The admin even PM'd me asking for a truce, in a similar style to this post:
http://www.macosx.com/forums/announcement.php?s=&forumid=8
But this quote, "That respect, was lost, both with you for me, and I for you (you know who you are)." I know includes me, and I don't think I did anything that a rational person would lose respect of me over. That and the threat of being sued twice by the admin (although he said I misunderstood that they were threats) has turned me pretty sour.
I think the different behaviour, like Cody, is because he's a new father, and under all sorts of stresses. I'm the same age as the admin (27 years old) so my age wouldn't be a factor. Whatever the reason, I got along with Scott well before this happened. I hope he sorts it out for himself.
If I do go back there, it will only be when you folks here (or at macfora) say it's safe to go back in the water.

I laid out the conditions I wanted to see. After reading your post, that only re-enforces my resolve at this point.None of this needed to happen, and Scott did some things that people just shouldn't do to others no matter what position of authority they have.
I am sorry this happened to you Jadey. I'm sorry that it happen to all of us. :(

It was real, but Admin has discontinued that action.

The Admin should be asking for your acceptance to an apology, not a truce.

RacerX also brought up a nice point. Admin says basically that we're all forgiven. Forgiven for what? Admin crossed the line between administrating a forum and dictating his own world.

I don't think it will be possible to ever say that it's safe. As someone else pointed out -- how long until he gets stressed out again and brings down the iron fist again?
He's lost my trust and respect, and at this point I am not sure that he will ever get those back. Like I've said before, taking a one-week breather is a good first step. But there are others I want to see him take before I am comfortable going back there.
Two threads dealing with this topic are Scott Mackey's "clean slate" one, and evildan's "monkey smileys are nice... but" thread. They're an interesting read.
I kinda always knew that Admin (and I thought; the other moderators too) were reading the posts, but not in such a extreme way. It's like "Big brother" is watching..
Honestly, I have never had any trouble with Admin, or macosx.com at all, but still there were certain ..problems. I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I'll give it a try. I don't mean to flame Admin (or anyone else), but I always thought Admin was a bit "bossy". You know, talking to the people at the board as "the community" (I never felt I was a part of any "community" in any way.. I was simply posting questions, answeres or thoughts.), - like a "leader" of some kind. And it has occured to me later, that the friendlyness (or perhaps I should say "friendlyness" now) that was at macosx.com isn't always that good. Don't get me wrong, friendlyness is important, but if crosses a certain line, it's like you can't say a bad word, - or you'll get flamed for it. As a bottom line I would like to add that deleted some of my posts because I was concerned about the reaction, from i.e. the moderators... But I suppose this isn't as bad as what happend to you guys.

he threatened to sue you? can you repost your original post here or at macfora? i'd be extremely interested to know what it was that admin was trying to hide ...
i must say i always felt rather bad about admin's attempts to recruit us forum posters as unpaid employees of press3, doing tech support without being paid, while he was charging for certifications ...
but he's obviously gone completely over the edge now, insulting us as a bunch of paranoid lunatics ... oh well, end of that story, i suppose (at least for me ...)

I have no idea what the post in question contains (don't really want to know), but I would ask that you use good judgement. If it is indeed potentially litigatable, posting it here could expose this forum to similar risk. If its not, then don't worry about it.
Just to be on the safe side, though, I'd request instead that you send it in a private message to the person who was asking to read it.
thanks.

I'm pretty sure it was just a couple of links to criticism of press3 and how to make it better or something...
Unbelieveable. MacOSX.com:
"Dear Community,
During an upgrade process, we experienced some major corruption in our database.
It appears that the data is still available and if we can get this resolved, things
should leave off where they left off. Otherwise, we will have to retract to our last
backup, which one was kinda done before the backup, but even it isn't working right.
Our one before that is a few months.
Anyhow, looks like we are down until we can get this fixed.

Oh and PS: Wow, with all the "ideas" floating around on what is "really" going on, you'd
almost think this was an X-Files show. Hmmm... maybe I should keep things more interesting
from here on out. People are tunning in for the latest episode in...
Your Paranoid & You Can't Hide It
Who will break down next time and post something expressing their own paranoia? Tune in tommorow
for another exciting eposide.
PSS: The boards are really corrupted... really. (yea, but you know who you are.. you still don't believe it.)
DO YOU?
PSSS: Monsters Hide Under Beads.. Watch out.... "
I'm going to stay here for a while.

So with the boards down over there, where is he hearing all this stuff?
I guess he is watching us right now, spooky... not. Besides, why post something like that, there were only a handful of people involved out of the 8000+ members. He really would have looked better sticking with an official looking announcement.
Gives you seem idea about his mind set though.
Yeah, I saw that one too. I had, and have, no idea to how to interpreter it. I didn't get the joke, if it was one, and if it was ment seriously.. well..

Vacation? *drool* I need me one of those.
I posted my original post over at macfora. It isn't something I can be sued over, just the threat of it was lame enough. The admin said that they weren't intended as threats, but I took, "Is this censorship? No. Can you be sued? Yes." as a threat that he certainly wanted to, or believed he has grounds to.
Anyway, where are you headed for vacation AdmiralAK?
