Firstly I will give you a quick background on my config.
I am connecting about 20 Powermac G5's to a Windows 2000 (SP4) Server. I was originally using afp but due to some technical problems and speed issues I have decided to change to smb.
My users use Quark Xpress 6.5, Adobe Creative Suite CS and Microsoft Office.
Since setting up the connections via smb I am having a few teething problems.
If I create an Adobe Photoshop jpeg file (also happens other apps) and save it on my desktop in a folder called Test and copy it to the server, not a problem.
If I now create another folder on the server in the same location (or anywhere) and call it Test2 and try to move the Test folder into the Test2 folder I get a login box appear. It says - Authenticate - Finder requires that you type your password. If I type in my password I get the message "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient priviledges for some of the items.
I have tried network account and passwords and local OSX user accounts and passwords but nothing will allow me to move the folder.
I have also tried the permissions within the Windows 2000 Server but even with Full Control of the folder, the problem still occurs.
Has anyone come across this problem before?
It only seems to happen when folders are copied across, not individual files.
I have also tried to move the file by itself but it says that the file is in use.
The only way I can move the file is if I use a PC to move the file and leave the ._filename.jpg in the Test folder. I then still couldn't delete the file. I asked our users to shutdown their machines overnight and I could then delete the Test2 folder in the morning.
Anybody with any ideas I would be eternally grateful. It's causing me no end of problems.
Thanks
Ian.
