There was an active discussion a few weeks ago here:

But it led to no solution.
There continue to be new threads that go unanswered by Apple in the discussion forums:
Home > iBook > iBook G4 > Displays > after screen saver/password, screen is blac
Home > Mac OS X > Mac OS X v10.3 Panther > Using Mac OS X Panther > black screen on waking from screensaver
Home > Power Mac > Power Mac G5 > Usage > Display still dark after login from screensav
Has anyone been able to find out any more info on what is causing the problem?
