are there any issues with B&W G3 450 and firewire external booting - I have an iPod and an Oxford IDE ext firewire (powered externally) both have blessed system folders through Carbon Copy Cloner.
But when selected as the start up device I get the blinking question mark and the sys eventually boots off one of the internal SCSI drives. Tried zaping the pram and using the command+shift+option+delete key sequence.

i've had issues with this too. i have a client with a Blue & White and i've tried repeatedly with different HD enclosures, hanging directly off of the machine and also further on down the chain and i've never been able to boot off of an external FW HD.
also, the firmware is so old that one cannot use the open firmware password security app to prevent users from switching between 9 and X...

According to Apple TIL:
Question 10: Is it possible to start up from a FireWire hard drive?
Answer: No, the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White) boot ROM cannot currently support starting up from FireWire-based storage devices. (from 6/2001)
Apple TIL Article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58238#10)
But still I've tried ... and tried ... to no avail.
