List,

Since a couple of days my system (eMac, OS X 10.2.8) doesn't start iChat and Mail anymore...
The icon bounces in the dock, but nothing starts. System log file shows a crash occurs (same for both applications), but not too many details
I reset NVRam already and tried reinstalling/updating the original packages with Pacifist, but nothing helps...

I'm not sure what the prebinding error messages tell me, but I read somewhere that these are not to worry about, correct?

Is there anything else I can check or try? Anyone else that has/had this issue?

Thx a lot,

Phil

Have you tried repairing the bindings using PantherCacheCleaner? Download it at

Northern Softworks (http://www.northernsoftworks.com/panthercachecleaner.html)

and save everything to disk before running its tasks. It comes with a good manual which explains each task clearly and briefly (rare combination :) ).

After doing this, and a restart, you will have had a good clean-out anyway, and it may fix your problem.

Support the shareware, if you think the product worthwhile: I find it excellent.

Good luck :)

I did a dowload of PantherCacheCleaner (although the system is on Jaguar it didn't complain anyway) and let it run and check/repair the volumes; no result...
From here I think the only thing I can do is do a reinstall of the system

Not yet.

Log in as another user and check to see if they work/crash there. If they work, then the problem is with your user. If they crash, then you're probably looking at a reinstall.
