View Full Version : Entourage for multi-users

How do you share the same mail database for separate login users in OS X?
Currently I have separate databases for me and my wife. She hates this since if I'm logged in, she can't quickly check her email. I have to log out, her log in, then launch Entourage.
I figure it would involve putting the MS User Data folder in the Shared folder but I think I ran into problems when I did that ... it's been a month or two since I tried it.
Any help would be appreciated!

you can create an account (menuBar->Tools->Accounts) and set it up for the new user.
then, rather than logging out of OSX, you can switch user in Entourage (option-command-q) which is under the Entrourage menu (next to apple).
and let them log in and check their email.
it maintains a seperate database under
/Users/loginUsername/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/

I haven't upgraded to Office X yet (and won't until it supports my Palm) but if it works like Office 2001 you could alias your wife's Office X folder in /Users/YourWife/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/YourWife'sAccount to your folder in /Users/You/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/YourWife's Account.
She would of course have to change the permissions of that folder to allow you to read it. You may want to create a new Group via netinfo (OfficeMail perhaps) and give that group rwx permissions. You and she could be the only members of the group. If you did this in both directions you would each be aliased to the other and have the ability to quickly switch users via Entourage w/o logging in and logging out of X. And any other users on the machine would still not have rw access to your mail.
