I can't print. I recently upgraded to Panther. I had a bad crash when switiching from a OS 9 boot partition on my Fireware external HD back to my Panther system on the internal HD. Thanks to hayne's suggestion, I was able to recover from that, but now I can't print.

I have a Laserwriter 360 select connected to the Quicksilver Mac via an AsanteTalk box. I have tried the Asante fixes for Asante Talk confusion: no joy.

I also have an EPSON RX500 connected via USB, and used to communicate with it via the Smart Panel icon installed on the desk top. Now when I click on that icon, it tells me to install the supported Twain driver. The RX500 does not appear as a choice in the add list in the print center window.

Here's what happened when I first noticed the problem with the LW360: I tried to print and got the "no printers availble" message. I opened the print center. The pulldowns said Appletalk and Local Apple Talk Zone. I clicked the Add buton, and Laserwriter 360 appears in the box. I select it. I get the "opening connection" and "sending data" message. Then the print center quit and the crash report box appeared with this stuff in it:

So then I deleted the LW360 and then reinstalled it. The print center didn't crash that time. Went to Word and tried to print, I got the standard print box that sez the printer is the LW360, but when I told it to print it said there is a printer problem and wouldn't print. Then I deleted the LW360 and reinstalled again. Print center crashed again, same as before.

Any suggestions? I have Pacifist. :(

Well, nobody came to the rescue, I finally found there were no printer drivers on the Mac. On the 2nd install of Panther, I chose the custom install and noticed that the printer driver box had a negative sign. That is, the install CD was set not to install printer drivers! I checked this box so the drivers would install, and now can print.
