Hello,

I have a 12" Powerbook 867 with Superdrive.

In the system profile it says the drive is:
DVD-R UJ-815
MAT****A

I bought 2x Apple brand blanks for a while... but they dont make them anymore.

So... I tried a blank Memorex DVD my neighbor had and it worked fine. This disc had no speed ranking on it.

So... I went to Best Buy and picked up a 50 pack spindle Memorex 4x blank DVD-Rs. This was the slowest speed anyone seems to have.

At home I now notice a notice that comes with these blanks:

"Using new recordable discs (4x for DVD-R) in 1X-2X Pioneer-manufactured DVD drives make cause damage in the drive. Please look for a firmware update.

So here is my question:

Will this apply to me because my drive is a MAT****A?
Will these DVDs do any damage to my computer or drive?

I still use Jaguar 10.2.6 because its my live audio computer and everything really works perfect so Im not upgrading until Tiger.

Is there some firmware thing I should be looking for?

Thank you very much. I would like burning a bunch of DVDs with iDVD. Any input at all would be greatly helpful. I dont want break my machine.

(ok... the forum bleeped the word: M A T S H I T A )

You probably can find the answers you need at the Mac-specific section of the Firmware page (http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=30). They seem to be up an all the skinny re: DVD drives, media and such...
