5 gig, scroll wheel

Some of the things I have been noticing.

Scroll wheel is getting sticky and a bit tough to move, cleaner maybe to fix this problem?

Volume doesn't always change when I try to - not a scroll wheel issue I don't think.

Once or twice a day I am having to do a soft reset. 9/10 times this is after a long pause where it sleeps itself. I don't need the clock so it's more of an annoyance than anything else.

On the plus side... no battery draining problems :)

Any ideas or helpful links would be greatly appreciated.

First thing to try with flaky iPods is always to Restore them. Download the latest iPod software updater (for original generation ones it's version 1.3.x, not the newer 2.x). Launch the updater, then connect your iPod. Use the Restore button. It will upload a fresh copy of the firmware. This completely wipes the iPod's drive, so make sure you've got everything in iTunes still. :)

Try this method for removing the scroll wheel to clean it and grease it. I didn't add any grease to mine, I actually got some sand in it at the beach. original ipods are not very beach friendly!!
