Best non-Apple email client?

Suggestions and opinions please.

The search bug, that I mentioned in my earlier thread, is now making things untenable if I travel with the iPad and no computer.

Searching around, I find many, often contradictory, opinions, so I would like to ask you for your opinions and experiences please.

With my need to be able to search effectively, which email client would YOU recommend?

I've been a fan of Thunderbird for years, and don't use the Apple mail app.

I should mention, that I have seen Ibis and Alta Mail, but the (very) limited reviews available hardly shout "buy me".

Another case where a trial would be in order.

As a point of interest, i Jailbroke this ipad today and now Spotlight finds anything i ask for, with a list of the relevant emails, even from Trash.

Mail still finds nothing.

^Maybe it is turned off in spotlight searching? Loyal Gmail user here.
