Anyone out there using Acrobat 6.0? I've got 5.0.5 and use it often, but am wondering if the upgrade is worth it.

Can you, for example, do scanning in 6.0? I've no luck with it in v.5.

Any other comments on what you like or don't like about 6.0 would be appreciated.

Haven't been brave enough to use anything but Reader 6.0 yet.. :)

Reader 6 takes much longer to launch, compared to 5. However, once it's up, it's faster than 5, has a cleaner UI, and has scroll wheel support.

I'm sticking with 5 and Preview for now, since I can't stand waiting for the *(@king thing to launch for 30 seconds or more on my 500-MHz Titanium. :-(

If you know anyone including yourself that is Affliated with an Educational Institution, School, Teaching Hospital etc.

You can go to Adacdemicsuperstore.com and other sites (but I like them best).

Many developers offer Huge Discounts.

e.g. Acrobat 5.05 was $49.99...

Now that 6 is out the Full Version is $99

Most Discounts are about %50 percent off Some are 90% off.

Well, what we're told to sell it for is $109. That's Acrobat 6 Professional. We don't bother with Standard, since no one at the university wants it.

Then again, it's only ten bucks of difference. :-)

I switched to Acrobat Standard and have been pleased. It is terribly slow to load but once up and running is much easier to use than v.5. I was especially pleased that Distiller and other functions no longer operate in Classic which was a big reason for my switch. Aside from the launch time, I have found it to be superior.

Thanks to anthlover's post, I checked out academicsuperstore.com and bought Acrobat 6 Pro for $95.00. They've re-worked the interface nicely and there are lots of helpful new features. I'm just beginning to explore, but so far I'm very impressed.

One gripe is that it can't read my scanner driver (Canon N670U). I was hoping to scan directly into PDF as you can adjust compression and other features in Acrobat, but it only reads Twain drivers and apparently none was installed. Canon's web site is absolutely no help, here, and the Adobe forums leave me doubtful as well. Does Vuescan provide a Twain driver?

I have the same scanner.....

I have not tried that feature.....

Can you not Save as from PhotoShop, or Canoscan???

I thought the whole Point of Quartz Engine was anything tour looking at you have as an option to save as a PDF.

I think VueScan might... but ? value over Quartz....

Well, sure, you can save PDF from any OS X app, but the scanning feature of Acrobat lets you adjust compression and has several other great settings. It would also save a step, and, well, it's supposed to work! Or so I thought.

Ok Silly thought #67 Reinatall CanoScan Drivers... (For Humors Sake if there is anything newer then you have). I last Downloaded Drivers for it in November.... 02

Perhaps the Installer will Find Acrobat, Like it Finds Photoshop 7.... And Preseto maybe threre will be an Option to Aquire..... The ? Does Acrobat 6 even?? even have an Aquire menu Like in PhotoShop waiting Diligently for a Plug In...

I already tried reinstalling drivers and toolkit. I even copied the plugin and Twain folder from Photoshop to a plug-in folder in Acrobat's package. No joy.

The scanning option is under File > Create PDF and also includes options to create PDF from files and web pages. Nice interface improvement.

I appreciate an OS X version of Acrobat -- since I don't have OS9 on my machine -- but there were a few irritating issues:

#1. The toolbars added to MS Office products were horribly slow to load. I clocked +10 seconds in Word -- for just the toolbar. I removed the toolbars from the Start folder for Office to correct this issue.

#2. Using Distiller is slow and bulky. The process is far slower than just printing a PDF version through the usual dialog. I avoid using Distiller.

On the upside, I have enjoyed the menu feature called "Reduce File Size" -- or something like that. Dropped a 10 MB PDF file down to 2 MB -- still very readable graphics.

Since I am not an academic, I paid $149 for the upgrade from v. 5.
