I recently downloaded the updates for the dev tools and java but don't know how to install them (although the Java1.3.1Update1.pkg was installed by software update so it is fine). But I still have the following files to install:

DebuggerPatch.pkg
FileMergeUpdate.pkg
HWAccelInfoTool.pkg
Java1.3.1Update1Dev.pkg

I know they all wind up in /Library/Receipts after they are installed. But there isn't much documentation that comes with them except for the Java1.3.1Update and I have some other questions about that for another post.

I think there must be more to this than copying them into /Library/Receipts and possibly changing some permissions on them. Please give me some hints on what to do with these. TIA.

double click the .pkg file and the installer app will run.

i don't know what HWAccelInfoTool.pkg is. where did that show up?

as for the /Library/Receipts directory, that is where a log and bill of materials (bom) file are dropped. an audit, if you will, of what has been installed. the actual patch(es) in the package(s) are punched down in the appropriate directory(ies).

zat help?

Thanks mT, I had no idea it was that easy.

The HWAccelInfoTool.pkg is for determining hardware acceleration and is part of the java update. I think it just tells you what your graphic card is so you can decide if you want the update or not. The documentation is much better than with the dev tool updates. I do have some questions about the java update stuff but I will put them in a new thread a little later on.
