About 3 weeks ago I installed 9, booted into it, changed the settings to allow me to use the F1 thru F12 keys normally, booted back into 10, removed all of 9.

Then I let the iBook go into sleep mode for lack of battery, and left it like that until completely shutdown, because I didn't have the charger.

When I turned it on it said something like"proposterous time setting, please reset" and the date was at like 1970, and the settings for the F-keys were gone.

Just thought I'd say think as it might help figure out how to change the settings from X only

System Preferences -> Keyboard Pane -> Full Keyboard Access Tab?

Is this the one you're looking for?

The battery I am talking about is a small battery that is used to keep minimal power even when the rechargeable battery is removed.

However, this Apple article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58445
says that the iBook does not have such a backup battery.
