iCal reminders don't work anymore

suddenly not seeing iCal reminders except when I have iCal open. I have always (and still do) have iCal set that reminders can appear when iCal is not running...

Put another way, I have "Turn off alarms when iCal is not open" un-checked.

Are my prefs hosed and is tossing them out a fix? Will I lose my calendar items if I do so?

Don't know whether it will help your problem, but ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.Scheduler.plist is where those are.
